Hundwiler Höhi | Ride MTB

Hundwiler Höhi

The scenic tour to the Hundwiler Höhe offers pure Appenzell, as you would expect from a picture book. The mountain restaurant on the summit with its world-class views is the starting point for a wonderful descent.

Description

From the St. Gallen suburb of Brüggen, you reach the village of Stein via Haggen. In the village, you ride a few meters on the main road, but then turn left just before the end of the village to return to the road via a short technical singletrail below the village of Hundwil. Follow this road to the village of Hundwil and then turn left onto a small mountain road that climbs towards Buechberg. After the hamlet of Geren, turn left again onto a steep alpine path that leads you to the top of Hundwiler Höhi, the highest point of the tour. For the descent, stay on the flowing single trail on the ridge and reach the hamlet of Görten via Ochsenhöhi. Here you take the gravel path for a few meters before turning off onto a technically challenging single trail at the next hairpin bend. Follow this to the next farm and then take an asphalt road to the hamlet of Enggenhütten. Ride back to Stein along the country road and back to Brüggen and St. Gallen via the access route.

Alternatives:

  • At Ochsenhöhi via Chuterenegg on the ridge path to Appenzell
  • From Hundwiler Höhi on the initially steep and challenging trail to Gonten

I rode the route today. Some nice, steep climbs and a lot of road riding. But it was a beautiful ride through Appenzell.
