Aare-Emme

The rivers Aare and Emme flow into each other near Solothurn. They form an attractive starting point for a bike tour between the two rivers, which are famous throughout Switzerland.

Description

The warm-up loop takes you from Büren over the Städtiberg to Oberbüre, although this section can also be safely omitted to get directly from Büren to Oberwil. You then follow country roads to Biezwil and take the forest path to the Biezwil forester's lodge. Follow the steep ridge eastwards and ride a little south of Aetigkofen to Unterramsern and Limpach. Forest roads then lead to Fraubrunnen, where you ride through Fraubrunnenmoos to the banks of the Emme. The route now continues downstream for a few kilometers, but then branches off to the left again at Kräiligen and starts the return journey. Via Buchegg, Ichertswil, Leuzigewald and Rütiwald, you finally reach the Aare again a little north of Rüti and follow the riverside path back to Büren.

Alternatives:

  • Omit Städtiberg at the start; from Unterramsern directly via Kyburg to Buchegg
  • From Ichertswil to Leuzigen and along the Aare back to Büren

Shuttles: It is possible to ride to Solothurn or Bern from Fraubrunnen and Bätterkinden train stations.
