Boa-/Hardrock-Trail

Liguria by Filip Zuan

The Passo del Muraglione in the hinterland of Varazze is no stranger to mountain bikers. The long descent via the Boa Express Trail and the Hardrock Trail back to the Ligurian coast starts from here.

Description

The Boa Express Trail starts at around 450 meters above sea level. In other words: that's how much you have to climb. The climb up to the top of the pass is on an asphalt road with little traffic, while the last section to the trail entrance is on a gravel road. The Boa Express is a fun, fast and flowing singletrail and ends far below at Nuova Casanova. Now it's time to master the almost 100 meters of asphalt ascent to Passo Valle and then, after a short passage on gravel roads, get to the trail start of the Hardrock descent. After the earthy Boa Express Trail, the Hardrock Trail now lives up to its name. It leads from the Santuario di Nostra Signora della Guardia monastery down a much rockier and bumpier direct route to Varazze. If you want to extend the tour a little, don't follow the direct route to Varazze from the monastery, but take the Frecce Bianche trail over the ridge of Monte Grosso down to Invrea and return to Varazze on the cycle path along the coast.

Hardrock Trail is really fun and worthwhile.... It is certainly not technically easy, but rewarding :-)
