Buchserberg (Imalschüel) | Ride MTB

Buchserberg (Imalschüel)

The Buchserberg is the base for many an evening of singletrail riding for local mountain bikers. One of the classic routes is up to Alp Imalschüel and from there along the Tobelbach stream directly into the center of Buchs.

Description

From the center of Buchs, ride up towards Altendorf and from there continue on the paved mountain road over the Buchserberg, past the Kurhaus to the Berghaus Malbun. From here, continue on a steeper alpine path to Alp Imalschüel, directly below Buchs' local mountain Alvier and 1330 meters above Buchs. The descent now follows the ascent route to Untersäss, after which a technically demanding and very long single trail begins along the Tobelbach stream. The trail is over 1000 meters long! Only at terrain point 741 do you have to deviate onto a forest path for a few meters before continuing on the trail along the Tobelbach. The trail leads to the village of Altendorf above Buchs, from where you can take the ascent road back to Buchs.

Alternatives: Technically easier trails to the south and north of the Tobelbach

I did the tour on 10.07.23 and the upper part up to the tree line practically criss-crosses cattle pastures. A path is not really visible, as everything is overgrown, and you simply ride from one marker to the next, which you have to look for. The trail after that is ok, relatively wide, practically without bends and not very technical, but I wouldn't pedal up 1350m for it...

The trail in the creek bed (from point 1117) is not recommended. However, there is a very(!!) good alternative: From point 1117 turn right over the bridge and follow the gravel road to point 1053. From this point turn left onto the trail, follow the trail via point 705, then near point 636 in the right-hand bend back onto the trail. Then follow the trail to Buchs Altendorf.

Trail is no longer recommended. There are always fallen trees in the way.

We completed this tour in May. The ascent to Berghaus Malbun is easy thanks to the road. From there, an alpine road leads to Obersäss, which is also a pleasant ascent. The Maschüel basin invites you to take a break, so make sure you allow time to rest or have a picnic next to the stream.
I didn't enjoy the descent so much, in the upper part the path goes over the cow meadow and is heavily trampled or you can't recognize the path at all, the path doesn't give the impression that it is much used. Along the Tobelbach stream, the path is more of a washed-out stream bed than a single trail, which is probably due to the heavy rainfall in spring 2016.
You lose a lot of height in the stream bed.
I will certainly do the tour again, but I will look for another descent, according to the singletrail maps there are other downhill options.

Many greetings Dani

Hello Dani

There are several beautiful downhill variants, but bikers are not welcome on these. There are even no-bike signs. However, these have been set up by private individuals. Buchsermalbun - Moos-Buchserberg-Guggi-Finegg - hiking trail almost to Werdenbergersee.

Greetings
