Chamonix - St. Gervais Enduro

Les Houches - Saint Gervais (Chamonix)

This long and challenging enduro tour connects Chamonix with Saint-Gervais and provides a great insight into the region with many, many singletrail descents.

Description

The tour starts at the top station of the Flégère cable car in Chamonix with a fantastic view of Mont Blanc. The view of the highest mountain in the Alps will accompany the tour all the way to Saint Gervais. As an introduction to the route, there is a cold start on a former downhill road for mountain bikers, which is easy to ride but no longer regularly maintained. But it is still fun today. This is how you reach the Petit Balcon Sud, a long mountain trail through the entire valley of Chamonix. This is where we are challenged for the first time, as the path goes uphill again and again. However, you are finally rewarded with the singletrail descent to Les Pélerins, which leads back to the valley floor. Now you roll to the Prarion cable car in Les Houches and ride up to the ridge.

The descent from Prarion to St. Gervais is the second part of the route. A flowing, steep and less bike trail rides through the dense forest. Often fast and flowy, but then it gets steep and rough, with flowing straights followed by circular serpentines. Everything is possible here! You reach the village center of Saint Gevais and head over the large bridge to the gondola lift that rides up to Mont Arbois.

From Mont Arbois, you have a great view of the western flanks of Mont Blanc. Above all, however, the summit is the starting point for the long descent into the wide valley basin of Sallanches. A crisp root trail leads to Les Chozeaux and, after a somewhat longer transfer section on asphalt and gravel, into the brilliant final section along the gorge of the Arbon stream. The trail ends in Letraz, from where you roll along the cycle paths to Saint Gervais station. Finally, take the train back to Chamonix.

Note: Note the seasonal dates of the mountain railroads. They usually operate in this region from the end of June to the beginning of September.

Les Praz does not take bikers in July August and the St Gervais cable car is being overhauled. We found a shuttle bus to Bettex. The cable car is in operation there
