Essertse Bike
Description
Start in Les Collons in the Val d'Hérens. If you are traveling between mid-July and mid-August, you can take the chairlift twice up to Thyon 2000. Outside the summer holiday season, you can make your own way up to the satellite village of Thyon 2000, an architecturally hideous corner of Valais that you quickly leave behind. A gravel path rides gently downhill to the "Tsa" ski lift. From there, the ascent towards the ridges of Thyon is tackled. The highest point of the tour is reached along the ridge shortly after the L'Etherolla mountain station.
Then the fun, technical descent begins: below Mont Carré, the trail turns off towards Gouilles (puddles) d'Essertse. Located at 2300 meters above sea level, the seven mini-lakes are considered the highest moor in Europe. The route continues on trails past the Cabane d'Essertse and then meanders through the forest. Only the last few meters of the descent are on a gravel road, the rest is pure trail fun. The final return on the forest road to Les Masses is practically flat.
The route is part of the SchweizMobil portfolio and is signposted with the number 141.
