Mont Rouge
Description
From Sion, take the main road via Vex to Hérémence. A signposted mountain bike route now rides parallel to the road towards Grande Dixence, which you follow to Mâche. After about three kilometers on the road, the alpine path branches off to the right towards Essertse. On this trail, you cover another 800 meters in altitude and have to push your bike for the last stretch above the Alp Essertse to the summit of Mont Rouge. From the summit, follow the trail past Mont Carré and then cross the western flank (La Combire). A forest trail then leads to Thyon, where the downhill fun to Sion begins. This consists of a mix of first-class single trails, which are interrupted by short sections of freight roads. Finally, you return to Sion through the Maragnène vineyards.
Alternatives: Ascent from Hérémence to Thyon without Mont Rouge

Route guidance partly suboptimal, because you often ride down on gravel paths. At the first chairlift mountain station in particular, you could follow the ridge directly. In addition, beautiful sections of the descent are blocked by logging.
I found the lowest part of the descent fun, very fast and flowing.
