Merkur Trail Runde

Merkur, Baden Baden

The fantastic tour around the pretty town of Baden-Baden offers plenty of variety, including the best panoramic views from the local Merkur mountain and from the rock bridge on the Battertfelsen rocks.

Description

Instead of riding directly up the Merkur from Baden-Baden, this tour takes in a few beautiful sections south of the town. To do this, you first climb up to Friesenberg and start the route to Geroldsau - a great mix of ascents, descents, single trails and gravel roads. In Geroldsbau, you add the fun Haus trails to the tour and then climb up towards Merkur in Lichtental. If you want to shorten the tour, ride from Baden-Baden directly to Lichtental. The ascent leads over moderately ascending gravel roads. Only the final section via the Fuchsweg is steep. If you prefer something more moderate, take the Merkurstrasse up to the summit. Once you reach the top, it's well worth taking a break - nowhere is there a better view over the lovely Baden-Baden region. As a cable car also rides up here, this spot is always well populated.

The first descent of the day rides down the north side of the Merkur. The trail is wide at first, almost like a gravel road, but then becomes narrower and rougher further down. You zig-zag down to a gravel road on which you roll to the main road near Ebersteinburg. The ascent to the Battertfelsen rocks begins here. This rides almost continuously uphill on single trails. On the ridge, there are once again great views down to Baden-Baden and over to the Merkur. The descent past Hohenbaden Castle is also great. The trail is agile, flowing and without any technical hurdles, a kind of Black Forest rollercoaster. This region is also popular with pedestrians, so a correspondingly considerate riding style is required. In this mode, you descend to the first houses of Baden-Baden and finally roll along the Oos river into the town center.

Note: The tour is located in Baden-Württemberg with the legal requirement of a two-meter rule. This tour contains elements that do not comply with this regulation. Rather, it reflects routes that are ridden by local mountain bikers. Compliance with the regulations is the responsibility of each individual mountain biker.
