Monte Arsenti Enduro-Quartett

Monte Arsenti Trail Center

Monte Arsenti is one of the hills near Massa Marittima and probably has the highest density of trails in Tuscany. Over ten partially built trails ride down in all directions from the viewpoint at the highest point. The quartet of El Niño, Scopine, Bonatto and Rock 'n' Roll Queen form a selection of the four most rewarding descents.

Description

At the foot of Massa Marittima, you start on a side road and later a gravel road in the direction of Monte Arsenti. After just under four kilometers, you switch to the "Spaghetti" uphill trail, which is great fun on an e-mountainbike. Without a motor, you have to overcome one or two steep sections with plenty of effort. Following the gravel road, you reach the hut of the local trail builders, the "Trail Brothers Massa Marittima". Continue uphill, first on a road and then on a well-maintained trail. Once you reach the highest point of Monte Arsenti, it's worth going to the viewpoint just a few meters to the right.

Afterwards, follow the signpost to the "El Niño Trail", named after cross-country rider Nino Schurter. His father and brother are the driving forces behind the "Trail Brothers" and are actively involved in building the trail. The mostly flowing single trail over around 250 Elevation loss on the north side of Monte Arsenti is perfect for warming up. You return to the highest point via a well-maintained gravel road, although you can switch to trails in the upper section.

The Scopine Trail descends again in a similar style on the north side, following the same route back to the highest point. The Bonatto Trail is a little rougher and is the third descent, riding down around half of the south side of Monte Arsenti. After a short traverse, the final ascent takes you to the well-known "Spaghetti-Uphill" and the equally well-known path to the roof of Monte Arsenti. Finally, the "Rock 'n' Roll Queen" is another challenging trail that is fun to ride with the right technique. It first leads down on the east side, then changes direction to the south and finally follows a small valley to the starting point of the tour.

Tip: The tour can easily be ridden as a shuttle tour, with only a few meters in altitude remaining to the highest point of Monte Arsenti, which can be conquered under your own steam.

Rode on our Tuscany vacation in September 2023. Definitely a recommendation. For those looking for flowy stories, I recommend the Insoglio Trail as well as the Jail Trail, our favorite.
