Castiglione Trails Toskana Italien

The coastal town of Castiglione della Pescaia in southern Tuscany lies between the sea, a lagoon and the hills directly behind it. On these partially wooded slopes, locals maintain the now numerous, stony-sandy trails by hand. The attractive trail tour with two of these trails offers a rather rare panorama for Tuscany and can be ridden all year round.

Description

The tour starts preferably at one of the parking lots just outside the town center, then rides through the town and quickly gains altitude on local roads. As you reach the gravel road, the steepness of the ascent increases, with Poggio Petriccio being the highest point after a good 300 meters in altitude. The Petriccio trail is a mostly flowing but sometimes winding singletrail of the best kind. This ends at the edge of the settlement, where the second ascent begins immediately. A steep road winds its way through a residential area. After a short descent, the ascent continues steeply again, but now on a gravel road. It flattens out shortly afterwards and even leads slightly downhill to become steep again on the familiar path to Poggio Petriccio. A trail now continues straight ahead, first downhill, then slightly uphill to the start of the final descent. The singletrail with the name Termine 24 is of the rather crisp variety, interspersed with jumps and stone fields. The

Beautiful, in my opinion somewhat more challenging trails compared to the Tirli Trail Area. This is because the hill is stony and rather sandy, and also mostly in the sun, as there is hardly any forest (mostly bushes). The tour itself is well put together, according to my Garmin a little more altitude (about 250m), apart from this tour there are other trails at Castiglione. However, the fairly straight uphill to Poggio Petriccio is tough :-) (for me: push).
PS: the first part of the last trail entrance has (in the meantime?) been signposted as an official uphill.
