Monte Maddalena
Description
From the center of Brescia, you first take the road up towards Monte Maddalena, passing the villa district on Monte Santa Croce. At the Maddalena bus stop, turn right onto a gravel road and follow it more or less flat until you reach Cascina Margherita. Here you can clearly see how much the region is used by mountain bikers and trial motorcyclists, as one of the first-class bike trails that ride down from Monte Maddalena ends here. We, on the other hand, choose a classic trail and head down it at S2 level to the Rifugio Valle di Mompiano. This is the starting point for the ascent to Monte Maddalena from the north side. To do this, initially take the Percorso Mauro John Piccinelli. This section leads uphill on a single trail; with a little strength (or motor assistance), almost everything is rideable except for a few meters. This is how you later reach the northern Monte Maddalena road. Climb up this road, turn left before the church and finally reach Monte Denno. Here, a path rides along the ridge with the best views down to the southern tip of Lake Garda.
The descent back to Brescia begins at Monte Denno, but it doesn't feel like a descent at first. You cruise along a very long mountain path through the northern flank of Monte Maddalena until you finally reach the mountain road. Follow this for a few meters until the next trail section begins on the right - the actual descent to Brescia. The trail is a flow spectacle, winding through the dense forest, sometimes a little steeper, then smoother again, sometimes interspersed with a few roots, then back to the velvety soft forest floor. After the open ridge, the trail becomes much steeper and more challenging. The left-hand variant as suggested is the smoother one. If you like it really technical and rough, follow the ridge instead of turning right as described here. Both options end at the main road, which you follow back to the town center.

Ridden on 28.5.2022: The last trail at km 23 is very overgrown & more of a stream bed that runs horizontally to the contour lines. Therefore better right here & with some short uphills Ri Brescia. Otherwise, Monte Maddalena is full of beautiful trails. Also some locals on the way on a Saturday.
