Santa Coloma Trails

Santa Coloma (Girona)

Santa Coloma south of Girona is the enduro hotspot of the greater Barcelona region. The south-western range of hills is virtually flooded with crisp single trails. Four of the best descents are combined into one route in this tour.

Description

The trail plan includes the following courses: El Camell, Dragon Kahn, La Llosa and finally the legendary Spiderman. Start with the warm-up section along the course of the river northwards until you reach the Mare de Déu Farners chapel on the left, 240 meters uphill on a gravel road. A little below is the start of the El Camell trail, a racy S2 to S3 descent to start the day. The descent winds its way back to the riverbank, where you roll a short distance downstream on the ascent route.

You then enter the loop with the Dragon Kahn descent. To do this, you climb up a gravel road again. This leads in a loop to the inconspicuous trail entrance 280 meters above the course of the river. The Dragon Kahn has similar characteristics to the entry descent. Fast, flowy, but always with crunchy sections, sometimes over large slabs of rock - an S3 fun ride that ends again on the riverbank and thus directly at the start of the third loop.

You climb up on the same gravel road, but then branch off to the left and fight your way up a steep slab road to a kind of plateau. It becomes somewhat flatter until you finally reach Les Gatoses. The inconspicuous summit with the refuge is the starting point for the two descents that lie ahead. First up is the La Llosa trail: a crisp S4 trail with many racy sections over rock slabs. This trail is the most technically demanding section of the tour. Like almost all of the trails in the region, this descent also ends at the riverbank.

It's time for the brilliant final section. You repeat the gravel road ascent up to Les Gatoses (270 vertical meters), but then head onto the Spiderman Trail at the refuge. The most flowing trail of the day as the finale. The flowing single trail is extremely varied, has a number of small jumps built in and winds its way down to the riverbank for almost three kilometers, bringing a great, varied but challenging enduro tour to a close just outside Santa Coloma de Farners.

It's a really cool tour that highlights the highlights. There are an incredible number of good trails. The first ascent of the download route is very washed out. To save energy (or battery), the ascent to the chapel on the normal gravel road is currently recommended. I rode La Serp instead of El Camell, as it has just been reworked and El Camell has not (yet). El Camell is very washed out and not fun. Here too, information from locals or trail guides about the current condition is worth its weight in gold. The red trails are really good, but also really technical. You should be safe on your bike. It is generally advisable to briefly check the landing on jumps. These are very different. Jumping blind is rather difficult. The trails and the location are definitely worth it.
