Matagalls – Sant Marçal
Description
The tour starts in the Catalan village of Arbuciés. This is where the long ascent begins: 1200 vertical meters in one go up to Col Pregnon (1540 meters above sea level) just below the Matagall summit (1698 meters above sea level). It begins on an asphalt road and then turns into gravel. If you want, you can climb to the summit with its fantastic views. The bike has to be pushed from Col Pregnon on a trail to the summit, but the additional 150 meters of altitude are worth it.
The long trail descent begins at Col Pregnon. The first part up to the Col de Sant Marçal rides along a varied S2 trail, followed by an asphalt transfer to the Col Sesferreres and a short section of gravel road. Keep to the right and take the singletrail (S1 with S2 sections) that rides to the valley floor. Here you meet the little road that you know from the ascent and ride back to Arbuciés. Contrary to the ascent, you can now take some beautiful S1 trails along the stream on the way back.
