Sant Marti Sacalm Supertrail

The plateau near Sant Marti Sacalm is located in the hinterland of Girona. This is where a hand-built gem of a trail begins.

Description

Sant Marti Sacalm is a lovely plateau high above the Susqueda reservoir in the hinterland of Girona. It can be reached either via a paved road from the village of Amer or, as in this case, past the Susqueda dam. This version is much more interesting in terms of scenery, as you dive into the winding and hilly hinterland of Girona on a narrow road. This way, you climb up to the dam on an asphalt road and then follow the gravel road, which winds its way up to the Sant Marti Sacalm plateau with numerous hairpin bends.

The descent begins in Sant Marti Sacalm, initially on an easy trail. After a gravel section, you continue to follow the signposted mountain bike route, descending on a somewhat unremarkable trail. Eventually, you reach a junction where the official route turns left, but we stay straight ahead on the gravel path. You reach a ridge and follow it downhill for a short distance on a wide forest road until the actual trail begins on the left. This handmade super trail is great fun: cleanly built, varied in terrain and interspersed with a few key sections. The trail continues in this manner down to Amer. Wonderful! From Amer, you can ride back to the starting point on the bike path. Tip: If you have access to a bike shuttle, ride the asphalt road from Amer directly to the start of the trail.
