Scharnitzjoch – Kirchl
Description
The starting point of the tour is Leutasch. From here, the relaxed cycle path rides west along the Leutascher Ache before heading uphill on gravel towards the Wangalm. The uphill section is challenging and lengthy in places, but easy to manage thanks to the magnificent views. Once you reach the Wangalm, you can stop for refreshments and then either shoulder or push your bike up to the Scharnitzjoch (2048 meters above sea level). Once you reach the pass, you can already enjoy a good view of the trail. The route continues past the Erinnerungshütte to Kirchl, the highest point of the tour. A possible extension would be the Gehrenspitze, although the trail here is very exposed and rough in places. At Kirchl itself, the panorama is gigantic.
The descent leads to the Scharnitzjoch and then through the Puittal valley towards Puitegg and then back to Leutasch - a varied trail with S2 and S3 difficulties, alpine character and fantastic mountain scenery. Once at the bottom of the valley, the route then takes a relaxed route back to the starting point on a mix of forest paths, side roads and asphalt.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
