Wanningrunde mit Barbara- & Rauhe-Gasse-Trail

Lermoos

The varied route around the Hochwannig crosses the Fernpass from Biberwier on historic Roman paths, then leads from Nassereith to the Marienbergjoch with its stunning views and has many a small downhill highlight in store on the built enduro trails back to Biberwier.

Description

The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is located on the Tyrolean side of the Zugspitze in the so-called Ausserfern, nestled between the Wetterstein mountains in the north and the Mieminger chain in the south. Whether short village tours, enduro trails or high alpine big mountain adventures - the eight municipalities of Ehrwald, Lermoos, Berwang, Bichlbach, Biberwier, Heiterwang am See, Lähn-Wengle and Namlos are fully geared up for mountain bikers and e-MTBers with more than a hundred official routes and single trails.

Many bikers are drawn to Lermoos: to the challenging enduro trails, which are easy to reach even with slightly heavier equipment thanks to the Grubigstein cable car. Touring bikers who don't fancy the park and want to fight for their descent "by fair means" should head for the village of Biberwier and the Marienbergjoch. The most rewarding way to conquer it is from the south. Start at the Marienbergbahn valley station (1000 m). Pass the Hotel MyTirol and follow route no. 835 to Lake Weissensee and the 2000-year-old Roman paths of the Via Claudia Augusta to the Fernpass (1220 m). Up here, you whizz west downhill to Fernsteinsee Castle (970 m) and on to the mountaineering village of Nassereith (820 m). Now the executioner awaits:  the arduous ride on a steep path to the Marienbergjoch. Cross the Rossbach stream and head towards Aschland/Holzeithensattel. About 100 meters after the end of the village of Aschland (1089 m), turn left onto route no. 605 to the Marienbergalm (1622 m). Pass the alpine pasture to the highest point of the tour, the Marienbergjoch (1789 m). Once at the top, you are spoiled for choice: either on a fast forest trail to Biberwier or with extra fun down into the Ehrwald basin? If you opt for the latter, turn off at the Sunnalm onto the fantastic single trails no. 869 Barbara Trail (S1- S2, places S3) and no. 870 Rauhe-Gasse Trail (S1).

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.

Cycled the tour today on 21.08.2023. The only trail is the Barbara Trail! With S3 sections as described in the text. If you skip the trail, you ride all gravel roads. I think the riding technique rating 3 is too high for the whole tour!!!
