Predigtstein
Description
The tour starts at the hiking parking lot above the Leutascher Ache. It is easy to get there by car, or alternatively you can save the toll by starting directly from the urban area by bike. From the parking lot, a steadily ascending gravel road leads up to the Gaistalalm.
After a possible stop at the mountain hut, follow the official Gaistal-Rotmoosalm cycle route. The ascent runs on a gravel ramp with a medium to moderate gradient and southern Alpine flair to the Predigtstein junction. The rideable part of the tour ends here, and the bike is pushed or carried from this point onwards. The gentle saddle below the Predigtstein marks the next section. If you wish, you can climb the Predigtstein on foot - a worthwhile detour with impressive views. From the saddle, the route leads westwards with a fabulous mountain panorama below the Hochwanner.
The first downhill section is between difficulty levels S2 and S3 and is varied but technically challenging with cross-country passages and some stream crossings. This section rides to the Steinernes Hüttl inn. After crossing a stream, a short ascent awaits before the next downhill section begins.
The difficulty level here is S3: loose limestone, shallow hairpin bends and roots make for a challenging but exciting ride. The trail is well developed overall and offers sufficient width to master the technical challenge. In the middle section, where woodwork has been carried out, the trail becomes smoother and winds its way through dense forests to the Tillfussalm. After another possible refreshment stop, a flowy section leads back to the official cycle route, which rolls steadily downhill to the hikers' parking lot.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
