Wetterkreuzkogel

Wetterkreuzkogel (Ötztal)

The Wetterkreuzkogel at the entrance to the Ötztal is a magnificent, alpine bike mountain that has a fabulous and eternally long trail descent and massively shortens the uphill with the help of the gondola support.

Description

The tour starts near Sautens. From here it goes to Oetz. In Oetz, the question now arises: do you take the gondola or do you climb the entire uphill yourself? If you take the gondola, you reduce the uphill massively and save valuable energy that you will need later. After the Acherkogelbahn mountain station, the ascent is relatively steep on gravel past the Bielefelder Hütte and finally pushing and carrying up to the summit, the Wetterkreuzkogel. It is gently embedded and offers a fabulous mountain panorama of the Ötztal Alps.

The descent towards Pochersee is very varied. Difficulty S2 and occasionally S3 is on offer, the more difficult sections are replaced by good flow passages. In this style, you wind your way through the Wörgetal valley and return to "solid" ground at Kühtaistrasse. There is also a small trail cut-off along the Kühtaistrasse and then the counter-climb to the mountain ridge, where the next trail section (S2 to S3) awaits. Typical for the region, this section leads through forest, roots and earth and is easy to ride in dry conditions, but can be very challenging in wet conditions. This also applies to the last section along the Auerklamm gorge. Partly a little washed out, no problem in dry conditions, in wet conditions the root passages and stones are very demanding. All in all, a fantastic MTB tour, although this should be completed outside of the vacation season, as there is a lot of family and hiking tourism on the mountain due to the gondola support.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
