Campo dei Fiori (Cubana-Trail)

Campo dei Fiori (Varese)

The Campo dei Fiori is an elongated mountain ridge north of Varese - criss-crossed by countless single trails. The route with the detour to Punta di Mezzo combines some of the best routes into a wonderful trail and panoramic tour.

Description

The Campo dei Fiori can be reached either directly via the center of Varese or - as in this case - from Gavirate on the northern shore of Lago di Varese. This way, there are a few more downhill trails than if you start in Varese. The warm-up phase for the ascent to Campo dei Fiori takes place on the cycle path along Lago di Varese. In Calcinate, you climb up the road via Morsolo and Casciago to Avigno, where the winding mountain road begins. You quickly gain height on this road and follow a section of gravel road until the asphalt road definitely turns into a gravel road at Monte Tre Croci. Follow this and then turn right towards Punta di Mezzo. The trail is easy to ride uphill until just below the summit, but the final section is too steep. The bike can be deposited below the summit with a clear conscience and the summit can be tackled on foot. This is worthwhile because of the wonderful view towards Malcantone and the southern lake landscape. Cycle back along the ascent trail to the gravel road, follow it a little further than before and then reach the turn-off for the Cubana Trail. This well-known bike route takes you on a fun and varied ride towards Barasso. Before reaching the village, however, you head slightly uphill to the right on a gravel path until the fast and flowy final section directly above Garivate leads back to the starting point.

Ridden in June 2022: Towards the end of the tour, on the last ascent, above Gavirate: The path of the original route is more of a bumpy stream bed. Therefore, take the red singletrail down to the left shortly before ''La Motta d'Oro''
