Monte Martica

Monte Martica (Varese)

Monte Martica is an inconspicuous peak to the north of Varese. If you want to conquer it by mountain bike, the following applies: steep is cool. Both up and down. The mountain offers the best training conditions for fitness (uphill) and riding technique (downhill).

Description

The ideal starting point for the tour is the industrial area of Olona, just north of Varese, where the Lindt chocolate factory is located. The first part rides uphill along a small road until the gravel path branches off to the left towards Monte Marica. This forms the basis for the ascent, which is pleasant to ride up to the Pian Valdes plateau. From there, the path becomes steeper and rougher and remains a feat of strength up to the summit. If you want to take in a little panorama on the tour, make a detour to Monte Chiusarella because the main summit is in the forest. The downhill trail starts right at the summit of Monte Marica, is very steep at first, but then becomes fun and flowy but always narrow when it meets the trail from the second last bend of the ascent. In this way, it rides through a former forest fire area. After reaching a small viewpoint, the trail becomes steeper, rougher and more technical. This section down to the road is not for everyone. However, those who like technical passages will get their money's worth here. Finally, you reach the flatter section of forest near Cuseglio, cross the road and head up the path to Montallegro. This is easy to ride, in sections as a single trail, then wider again as a gravel road. The fun final section down to Induno begins at Montallegra, a fast, agile and flowing singletrail. You return to the industrial district initially on the main road, then immediately after the traffic circle via a side road.
