Geissflue - Gisliflue

Aarau has a few singletrail highlights to offer. These include the Geissflue and the Gisliflue. If you combine these two, you have a crisp trail tour right on the outskirts of the small town.

Description

From Aarau, follow the Veloland route past Nieder-Erlinsbach to a hill before Stüsslingen. Turn right here and follow agricultural roads to the foot of the Gugen. Here you climb up a forest road for a while, but halfway up to the summit you follow the hiking trail markings to the north side. Continue via Schnäggenberg (Rohr) and Rosmaregg in the direction of the Barmelweid clinic. Keep left before the clinic and climb up to Geissflue. The singletrail starts at the ridge and follows this as a fun flow trail to Salhöhe. The trail continues on the opposite side of the road and climbs steadily up to Wasserfluh. A detour to the viewing platform is worthwhile here before descending to Küttigen on the singletrail through the Brunneberg. The next ascent awaits. A forest road leads through the steep western flank of the Homberg and eventually turns into a singletrail that rides along the ridge to Gislifue. Immediately before the Gisliflue, the bike has to be pushed as the trail is too steep in the last few meters. The route continues along the ridge to the Veltheimerberg and from here along the marked hiking trails to the banks of the Aare at Auenstein. You return to Aarau on the northern bank of the river.

I rode this exact tour on 10.05.2024 for the radio show Trails&EDM on Kanal-K. Basically a great tour that I can highly recommend. However, there is not just one, but two sliding passages that you have to be prepared for.

One before the Wasserflue and the other, as mentioned in the tour report, on the Gissliflue. The descent from the Gissliflue is a disaster. I would prefer any other option here (including the same route back to Küttingen).

However, the tour is a wonderful way to explore the beautiful area around Aarau. Like most ride.ch tours, this one should also be seen as a tour suggestion. Depending on your taste, skills and preferences, it should be ridden a second time with personal adjustments.

Basically, I would not ride the tour at the weekend, as the route is very popular and you will meet more or less hikers - who are all more or less happy about us bikers.

The descent from Homeberg to Küttigen is quite good. So maybe ride the whole tour in the other direction?

up to gisliflue it's a fine and often flowy thing ... but then it gets tragic.
a pointless push follows after the gisiflue, which is "rewarded" with an uninspired descent.
it's better to look for something better from the gisiflue down towards aarau ... at best partially back on the same trail ... or down through the middle.

suggestion

The trail continues on the opposite side of the road and climbs steadily up to the Wasserfluh --- this part can be safely omitted by anyone whose first name is not Nino or who doesn't think "mainly uphill on a blocked sigle trail and down a gravel road...". think it's cool!
