Chestenberg

The Chestenberg is one of the best single trails between Aarau and Baden. Starting in Brugg, you can integrate the ridge into a wonderful singletrail tour in the inconspicuous Aargau region.

Description

From Brugg, the route takes you along district, mountain and forest roads to Habsburg Castle, from where you reach the first houses in the village of Scherz along the marked hiking routes. The ascent to the Scherzberg is short, immediately after the hill you reach the single trail along the ridge. Follow this until you reach the ridge of the Chestenberg. The route now leads - initially somewhat technically - over the ridge to Brunegg Castle. Follow the marked hiking trails to Büblikon and from there to the banks of the Reuss. Follow the river on the right-hand side, then change banks at Mülligen and return to Brugg via Windisch.

Rode the tour on 18 May 25 with my Specialized Expert Enduro and two hobby e-bikers. Mellingen along the Reuss was easy to ride. Mülligen then no riding, but no hikers in the morning. Brugg Café stop at the Frei bakery. Then on to Habsburg Castle and up the Chestenberg. Ridge not very ride-friendly and more suitable for good riders. Moderate tour with some beautiful scenery.

There is now also a ban on cycling on some sections between Scherzberg and Kernenberg. As prudent and responsible bikers, we have taken this into account.
However, after Scherz you can leave the little road towards Scherzberg on the ascent and take the trail there.

Bank of the Reuss now prohibited for mtb. The rest of the route has very little trail and - apart from the ridge (when not wet) - is not very attractive....
