Goiselemandl

Goiselemandl

The traditional name Goiselemandl is associated with an alpine mountain above Lienz, which not only offers an impressive view, but also a long and sometimes challenging descent.

Description

You start in Lienz. First you pedal on asphalt towards Thurn, then you follow the pass road steadily uphill towards Hochlienz. The ascent is mostly at a medium to moderate gradient and can be mastered steadily. In the area of the parking lot, at the crossing towards Hochlienz/Zettersfeld, turn left onto a gravel road to the Steinermandl mountain hut. Past the Lackenboden Speichersee reservoir, a sometimes crisp ascent continues upwards, accompanied by magnificent views. At the hut, take the hiking trail towards Goiselemandl, which follows the course of the ridge. The uphill is technically more demanding here, but with only a few short sections of pushing or carrying. The last few meters to the summit are steeper before you reach the panoramic summit in the southern Schober group at 2533 meters above sea level. The panorama stretches from the south with the Dolomites to the north to the Hohe Tauern - a real highlight.

From the summit, the descent leads back towards the reservoir. The trail oscillates between S2, occasionally S3, and includes some key sections with short pushing passages. The trail continues via the turn-off to the Rottman Alm and back to the Lackenboden reservoir. Especially in autumn, with the golden larches and clear views, the landscape is at its most beautiful. You then cross the asphalt road again at Hochlienz/Zettersfeld and take the historic hiking trail towards Thurn. This was once of regional importance and is still paved in sections. Here, S2 and occasional S3 sections alternate before you turn onto the 4a path and continue downhill.

The Dolomitenblickweg trail continues the tour downhill - moderate at first, increasingly technical towards the end, with sections at S3 level. Once you reach the first settlements, you follow the Grafenbach in a flowing finale back to Lienz. After crossing the Isel, you reach the picturesque old town directly, where the tour comes to a perfect end.
