Knoten

Knoten (Drautal)

There are some interesting all-mountain tours in the upper Drau Valley, with the descent from Knoten via the former farm tracks being one of the most inviting and scenic tours.

Description

The tour starts in Berg im Drautal. From here, the route initially rides steadily uphill on asphalt, later on gravel via the south ramp to the Tristenhaus. The ascent is characterized by medium to moderate gradients and allows you to gain metres in altitude at a steady pace.

Past the Tristenhaus, you reach an old mule track or alpine path with the number 330, which leads upwards at a much steeper and tougher pace. This section can be ridden all the way to Ochsentörl on an electric mountain bike. From the Ochsentörl, the tour is usually over for electric mountain bikers, unless you are prepared to carry the mountain bike further. With a classic mountain bike, however, you can continue to the summit of the Knoten at 2214 meters above sea level.

The summit offers a very impressive view towards Hochkreuz and Rothorn as well as southwards to Reisskofel and Dristallkofel in the Gailtal valley. The descent from the summit down to the Ochsentörl is technically demanding and ranges in difficulty from S3 to S4. Individual sections can also be pushed if necessary.

From Ochsentörl, follow trail no. 331 and sections B5 and B6. Here, quite flowy passages alternate with very bumpy sections until you finally reach the panoramic trail in the direction of Emberger Alm. The next trail section begins at the Emberger Alm on hiking trail 338 B6. This leads directly down into the Drau Valley on difficulty levels S1 to S2.

Note that there is occasional forest clearance work in this area due to windthrow. Riding style and speed should be adjusted accordingly, as there may be foreign wood or forestry equipment on the trail in places. Once you arrive near Greifenburg, follow the panoramic trail above the Drautalstrasse road back to the starting point in Berg im Drautal.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
