Cimaross – Adler-Lounge

Cimaross (Adler-Lounge)

The long and challenging round tour via the Adler Lounge and the bike park in Kals am Großglockner is one of the MTB classics in East Tyrol and offers views of the countless 3000 m peaks plus a varied and rewarding trail descent.

Description

This circular tour starts in Unterpeischlach, or Huben, at the entrance to the Defereggen Valley. From here, you follow the official cycle path along the Isel to the north, steadily uphill, until you finally reach Matrei in East Tyrol. The route then continues steadily uphill on asphalt through the urban area on the so-called Klaunzberg loop. A long and challenging uphill, which eventually turns into gravel and runs directly under section 2 of the Goldried cable car. The view, especially to the west into the Virgen Valley, is breathtaking and the view of the numerous 3000-metre peaks is unique. At the highest point of the tour, the Adlerlounge or Cimaross, at over 2,400 meters above sea level, you have a magnificent panoramic view of no less than 60 three-thousand-metre peaks, including Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner. A refreshment stop is possible here, as the Adlerlounge is staffed.

After a break, the descent begins. A perfectly laid out serpentine trail with various sections rides eastwards to the middle station of the Kals cable car. After a few meters on a gravel road, turn left onto the Gornerwald Trail. This superbly designed nature trail is flowing and challenging, with difficulty levels between S2 and S3. The trail leads steadily downhill to the junction with the Roseggbach stream, where you take a flow line with a few jumps before rolling down the area towards Kals am Großglockner via a forest road. A mix of singletrail, side roads and a short uphill finally lead to the Kalser Landesstraße. From here, you have to roll along the Kalser Landesstraße back to Huben, as there are no trail or forest road alternatives on this section, which deducts one point from the tour's overall rating.

Note: If you want to use the Kals cable car as a shuttle, you should start the tour from Kals am Großglockner. Repeat rides in classic bike park style are also possible there.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
