Hôtel Weisshorn
Description
The tour starts in Vissoie and initially rides along the main road to St-Luc. It is possible to take the PostBus for this section. In St-Luc, follow the road towards Chandolin for a while until you turn right a little after the village and follow the mountain road to the Hotel Weisshorn. The view from the free-standing mountain hotel high above the Val d'Anniviers is unique. The same scenery awaits you on the single trail that rides gently downhill to Alp Barneuza. From here, follow the hiking trail to Mottec, a path that is steep in places but wonderful to ride. From Mottec, a singletrail leads to the outskirts of Grimentz, where you follow the Gougra stream downhill to the Navisence stream. Follow this along a small road to a reservoir below Vissoie. 80 meters of altitude difference finally have to be overcome again to the starting point in Vissoie.

The tour is great, but the part of the trail between Barneuza and Mottec is in a catastrophic state and barely rideable (in my opinion, even for professionals). So you have to walk a lot on this section, and when it is passable, it is more S4 than S3. The single trail between Mottec and Vissoie is officially closed. But you can get through without any major problems (a few trees are still lying across the path). ⚠️ Attention: forestry work.
Wonderful panorama. Beautiful trails. Partly still closed and logging, but doable with some tree climbing.
Beautiful tour with a wonderful mountain panorama! From St Luc, the funicular rides to Tignousa for CHF 16 to save meters in altitude.
We started the tour in Vissoie and took the road up to St. Luc, which has a pleasant gradient and the traffic is limited.
From the junction shortly after St. Luc there is no traffic at all and then a steady climb, first on asphalt and then on a dirt road up to the Hotel Weisshorn.
The closer you get to the hotel, the more the gradient increases, but the path is still easy to ride.
The single trail that starts at the highest point just before the hotel is peppered with short sections of running in the first part, but this is hardly a problem.
Then follows a flowing trail up to Alp Barneuxa, shortly before the alp you cross a scree field where a bit of running is required again. From the alp, first follow the alp road until a hiking trail (signpost) branches off to the left.
From there, a fun trail begins with hairpin bends and descents, some of which are very smooth to ride, followed by more technical passages until you reach the road.
For the return trip to Vissoie, we opted for the road to save time and were thus able to ride slightly downhill to the starting point.
The trails are in excellent condition, although there are many hikers around the hotel, you hardly ever get in each other's way.
If you want to eat something at the hotel you should reserve enough time, the staff were working to the limit despite being fully occupied.
Best regards Dani
