Corne de Soirebois

The tour to the Corne de Sorebois is a panoramic and trail highlight in the Val d'Anniviers in the face of the 4000-metre peaks.

Description

From Grimentz, follow the singletrail parallel to the main road to Mottec. The route rides through the village of Zinal and uphill to the right after the last houses. Almost 1200 vertical meters add up to the Col de Soirbois, the starting point of the descent. From here, it is worth climbing up to the summit by bike to enjoy the panoramic view. Here you are surrounded by 4000-metre peaks such as the Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Dent Blanche and Mont Blanc de Cheillon. The descent leads along a single trail that is easy to ride through very steep meadow terrain, with the path becoming wider and wider as the altitude decreases. The last few meters to the dam wall of Lac de Moiry lead along an alpine road. The singletrail continues on the western side of the valley. A few meters on the road follow until the next singletrail on the right rides downhill to Grimentz.

The last section from Espace Weisshorn is super steep (20-30%) and more ski slope than road. I preferred to shoulder the bike and walk up on the hiking trail. On the ride map, the descent to Lac de Moiry is marked on the hiking trail, which is not very suitable (in good weather) as there are a lot of hikers on the trail. It is better to take the (not signposted bike trail). As already mentioned, there are no berms, which reduces the flow somewhat.
Below the dam wall, I would stay on the Grand Raid route instead of heading north on the hiking trail at point 2157.
The forest road between Grimentz and Mottec is currently still closed due to fallen trees. So you have to take the road with little traffic.

There is now a new bike trail for the descent to the reservoir. Not yet explicitly signposted and, in my opinion, could be improved with berms. A few hikers had got lost on the trail, but it wasn't too bad. Fewer hikers to cross/overtake, so more flow.
Beautiful view - simply top. Make sure you do the small climb to the summit as described above, I certainly enjoyed it.

We started in Zinal. The road starts quite steeply, then becomes a little less strenuous. The last section to the pass is very steep. The descent to the reservoir is great fun. It is steep, but a smooth ride.
Below the dam, the track leads to the left of the road along a hiking trail, which is only fun for hiking. It might be better to take the path from the dam down to the road, cross it and take the path on the right-hand side of the road.
