Monti Loga

The mountain village of Laura at the entrance to the Valle Mesolcina (Misox) is known for its many singletrail descents to Roveredo and Bellinzona. One of these trails rides over Monti Loga and impresses with its panoramic views.

Description

Right on the outskirts of Roveredo, you start the 1030-metre ascent to Laura. This rides entirely along an asphalt road and has a pleasant gradient of eleven kilometers. Once the ascent is over, it's time for the descent. Initially, this rides along a gravel road until the path to Loga branches off to the right. This is a fun trail, has a few hairpin bends, is a little exposed in places and finally leads to the hamlet of Loga. Here you can enjoy an extraordinary panorama of the Magadino plain and Lake Maggiore. The descent continues past the old telephone booth, where you turn onto a narrow path of stone slabs. The trail starts off fun again, but soon becomes more difficult and challenging. Narrow hairpin bends, stone paths, sometimes exposed, stony steps - just as you are used to from the Sopra Ceneri in Ticino. Follow the path to the Alphaltstrasse, follow it downhill for a few meters until the next trail section begins on the left. The singletrail down to Arbedo is rough, you pass the little road twice, then navigate tight bends past a water reservoir and reach the outskirts of Arbedo. From here, follow the signposted cycle route along the Moesa River back to Roveredo.

A beautiful technical descent in Ticino style with roots, steps, stones and hairpin bends. The section to Monti Loga is 5*.
Surprisingly, even in August there is still a lot of leaves on the trail from the previous year, but this was not a problem.
Although it is an official hiking trail, the path does not seem to be used very often. At around 790 m altitude, above "In Aragn", you suddenly find yourself in front of a fence and it is not clear where the trail continues. The answer is to go left past the fence for about 200 m through unrideable terrain densely overgrown with tall ferns and spiky bushes to the "In Aragn" farm. If you like Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park movies, you'll love this section. A machete would be very helpful here. Below the farm, the route continues in a rideable and less bushy manner to the road. The final section to Arbedo is another beautiful Ticino trail.

We rode the tour on Sunday. The part after the hamlet of Loga "Narrow hairpin bends, stone paths, partly exposed, stony steps" is really tough. In one part, the foliage is high and the lower part of the foliage was wet and as the path is quite exposed and still peppered with branches lying around, you have to love a bit of adventure and if you love your health, you will often descend in the exposed hairpin bends with steep steps. I like it technical, but prefer it less exposed. The upper and lower, rough sections were great fun for me and my buddy.
All in all, it's still a worthwhile tour for those with good riding skills and nerves of steel. Everything is still doable and there are some really great highlights. We were out and about on enduro e-bikes.

This tour has 50cm of foliage everywhere, every 10m a tree on the ground, nobody has been there for 5 years.

I can only confirm this. In the village of Laura, continue on the tarred road until you reach the bend that marks the westernmost point in the village. Take the forest road there.

We rode this tour today. Beautiful, absolutely recommendable!
We started in Bellinzona. Perfect for riding in to Roveredo. Amazingly scenic, all along the river. The ascent to Laura is great. At the beginning through chestnut forests, later through beech forests. Hardly any traffic on the tarred road. The Resti Bola is closed from Oct. 1. We didn't find anything else, but luckily we had food in our rucksacks. Do not turn right immediately after the Resti Bola. These 300m are still worth riding on the tarred road. At the start of the trail, or rather the gravel road, we were tempted by the trail branching off to the right. However, this ends in nowhere and we had to scramble a few meters back onto the gravel road. Keep to the left at the first junction. The descent is exactly as described in the tour. Challenging but mostly rideable. The route is well signposted. Simply follow the hiking trail. Definitely do it! It was great! Especially in the fall. All the trails were full of chestnuts. Wonderful!
