Mesocco-Trail

Mesocco-Trail

While holidaymakers struggle up the Misox on the highway, the Mesocco Trail is a fun ride from the Passo del San Bernardino to Mesocco through the southern Graubünden valley. The final section, which runs along the former railroad line, is a highlight.

Description

The tour through the Misox starts at the top of the Passo del San Bernardino. First you cross the rugged terrain on a trail over to Alp Montagna and then head down the trail in the direction of San Bernardino. You reach the Alp de Pian Doss and finally the settlement of Fregeira. The following singletrail down to San Giacomo is technically demanding, the route becomes smoother later on to Cebbia. Follow the signposted hiking route. You finally reach Mesocco, where the second part of the tour begins. The route is now flatter and rides along the former railroad line (Bellinzona - Mesocco railroad line). You roll along the gently sloping path, passing small tunnels and bridges again and again. At the village of Soazza, there is nothing left of the railroad line, but you now follow the River Moesa all the way to Lostallo. It would be possible to reach Bellinzona via Roveredo in this way, but the route is then no longer spectacular. Incidentally, you can get back to the starting point from Lostallo by post bus.
