Maruso

The largely unknown super tour to Alp Maruso is hidden a little north of Bellinzona. Anyone looking for singletrail fun in seclusion will get their money's worth here.

Description

The tour starts in Claro, which can be easily reached from Bellinzona along the Ticino riverside trail. In the village center of Claro, you climb up to the monastery, pass it and climb up the mountain road to just below Alp Maruso. The road ends here at a turning point. A short pushing section on a single trail then leads to the group of houses, which consist entirely of lovingly renovated rusticos and offer excellent views of the Magadino plain. For the descent, follow the trail that leads north from Maruso, passing Alp Tea and crossing the ascent route twice. The second time, you follow the road downhill for a few meters until the trail continues to the right and rides wonderfully smoothly with some tricky passages back to the village of Claro. Follow the Ticino back to Bellinzona.

Alternatives: At the second junction, ride up the road to the Alp and via Moncrino to Claro (very technical descent)

As described, the first part is definitely more technically demanding than a 3. The short "pushing" passage is more of a hike and bike, where you overcome approx. 80m. But if you skip the first part, you don't have to carry anything and you're in for an exciting descent.

The top part is actually blocked on the right and is not riding technique 3. The village at the top is quite nice but I would just leave this part out. The rest of the trail is really exciting with lots of rock.

For my taste, the riding technique requirements are not right. The trail is in a pretty poor condition and quite bumpy in places. I was disappointed.
