Obertauern – Stoneman
Description
The starting point of this challenging tour is the small village of Forstau. The route first rides on asphalt towards Löbenau and then takes a small trail section with difficulty level S2 towards Altenmarkt im Pongau. The cycle path then runs along the B99 expressway to Obertauern. The entire valley is mostly crossed southwards, with some interesting uphill sections along the expressway. Apart from the Obertauern area, the route runs along this road in sections. From Obertauern, the route continues towards Hundsfeldsee and through the ski area until the last few meters below the Sonntagskarhöhe are covered by pushing or carrying the bikes.
The descent then begins at the saddle at almost 2100 meters above sea level. Surrounded by a dreamlike mountain world, the descent to the Oberhüttensee lake is of a difficulty of S2 to S3. After the Oberhüttensee and past the Oberhütte, the next trail section begins, which can also be classified as S2 and S3 and should not be underestimated, especially in wet conditions. Finally, you reach the Vögeialm and roll down the valley to the north in a relaxed manner before finishing with a few more meters of trail along the Forstau stream.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
