Pass da Niemet

Lago di Emet (Pass da Niemet)

The route from Ferrera over to the Splügen Pass is wild, high alpine and adventurous. The tour is a special experience for mountain bikers looking for single trails off the beaten track.

Description

From Andeer, initially ride up the mountain road to Rofla and then head into the Ferrera Valley. At the village of Innerferrera, turn right into Val Niemet and climb up the steep alpine road. At Alp Niemet you have climbed almost 1000 meters, the remaining 300 meters to the pass have to be tackled by pushing. Here you have a wonderful view down to Lago di Emet, which you reach later on a beautiful trail. The Rifugio Bertacchi offers a good opportunity for a rest. This is followed by a traverse through the steep rock arena. This section can only be ridden in sections, and in the summer months there are many hikers here. Finally, there is a descent to the Lago di Monte Spluga and the ascent on the road to the Splügen Pass. The singletrail descent to Splügen is then a highlight of the tour before finally heading back to Andeer on a mix of small roads, forest paths and singletrails along the Hinterrhein.

It makes no sense to start the tour in Andeer. You can save yourself the additional ascent on the main road. Take the Rofla freeway exit, ride towards Juf and there is a large parking lot 100 meters further on.
The 300 meters of pushing have to be expressed in time. As the pushing section is fairly flat, it takes almost an hour. However, some sections are rideable in between.
As we did the tour quite late in the fall, the Refugio Bertacchi was already closed, but we were completely alone, without any hikers. As soon as you join the Splügenpas road, you can stop for refreshments at the restaurant.
The tour is only recommended for very good bikers, as everything is very bumpy. With a lot of speed, however, almost everything is rideable.
I enjoyed the tour, even though it was quite a slog. The journey to and from the tour takes up a whole day.
