Via Mala (Lenzerheide)
Description
The first part of the route rides from Lenzerheide to Thusis via the Alten-Schyn-Weg. To do this, you initially follow the marked mountain bike route to Lain. Now either head via Muldain onto the Schyn trail or add the first attractive single trail to the route with the ascent to Creusen. Here, at the last houses, an old but fun path begins to descend towards the Schin gorge. Here you reach the signposted mountain bike route again and follow this in the direction of Thusis. After the gorge and a section on a gravel path, keep left onto the path down to Parnegl and follow another beautiful path down to the power station at Sils. Thusis is just a stone's throw away, where the second part of the route begins. Initially, you climb up to Zillis on the old Via Mala road. The narrow rock passage with its historic bridges is particularly impressive. The route rides up the Schamserberg on a mountain road, passing the villages of Donat, Pazen and Farden before finally reaching Lohn. From here there are another 300 meters of ascent to master until the highest point of the tour is reached in Summapunt. The long descent initially leads along an alpine road, but the singletrail fun begins after the village of Valloia. The path now meanders endlessly through the steep mountain forest. After the Acla da Sut forest clearing, the route becomes steeper, has a few tricky sections and leads through rocky sections that are easy to ride at the very end. This descent is considered one of the best in the Thusis region. The return journey to the starting point involves a short climb to Rongellen, where the final descent to Thusis begins a little above. To get back to Lenzerheide from Thusis, take the train to Tiefencastel and then change to the Postbus.
Tip: If the tour is too long for you, take the Postbus to Lohn in Thusis and save yourself a large part of the ascent.

Upper section not passable: no-driving signs were already warning us. The route was full of overhanging trees and streams. It was more like hiking than mountain biking.
The last section back to Thusis is also more like hiking on a bike: I don't know who can ride something like this ...
We wanted to ride this tour on July 22, 2022, but on the post bus to Lenzerheide we were told by locals that the route from Lenzerheide to Thusis cannot be ridden like this, because the route through the Alte Schyn has been closed for 2 years, Lenzerheide Tourism confirmed this to us, and the hiking trail through the Alte Schyn will no longer be maintained and will remain closed forever. The second part from Thusis is normally passable.
The trail is not closed but is not part of the official hiking trail route network. That is a difference. You can also access the Alter Schyn via Muldain. This is not even closed but a signposted cycle and MTB trail.
We rode the tour on 16.8.18.
In Zillis, we took the opportunity to visit the famous church.
The ascent from Zillis to Lohn is on an asphalt road with no shade. Beautiful views but otherwise not worthwhile - except as fitness training. The descent is first gravel road, then a zig-zag trail 3/6. The 2nd zig-zag part is already 4/6. Here you are immediately south of the GPS data on this website, as the old path no longer exists. However, in the absence of an alternative, you cannot get lost. Further down you come back to the GPS track.
Especially the second part (Viamala) is very nice to ride, the first part is more adventure-oriented.
In the first part, the trail from Creusen is an alpine road for the first 500m, then a trail with little traffic, which is currently blocked by many trees. The final descent to Thusis is another beautiful and fast trail.
If you want to take the post bus from Thusis to Lohn --> Be sure to check the timetable... Buses only ride irregularly. Alternatively, a cab took us.
..in case it doesn't work out with the Posti.... We shuttle you everywhere from Thusis!
