Davos – Thusis

What connects Davos and Thusis? It's primarily single trails. They form the basis of this remote and fun route. Also included: the Zügen and Schyn gorges. The route from Thusis to Davos can be mastered with the Rhaetian Railway.

Description

From Davos, the tour initially rides along the cycle path to Frauenkirch and from there via Lengmatte to Davos Glaris. The tour can easily be started from here, the approach from Davos to Glaris is not particularly exciting. In Glaris, you climb up a little and then head onto the singletrail to Ardüsch. Later you reach the Alter Zügenweg, a beautiful singletrail that requires a lot of energy uphill. Once you have mastered this, you climb a few meters further on a steep gravel road and then turn left onto the narrow high trail in the direction of Wiesen. These are primarily fun single trails that eventually ride to Davos Wiesen station. This is where the traverse through the lower Albula Valley begins, the second part of the tour so to speak: you head along the Landwasser river to the world-famous Landwasser Viaduct and then roll along the Albula to Tiefencastel and via Mistail to Alvaschein. Now comes part three with the descent through the Schyn Gorge to Thusis: initially there is an ascent on the little road to Muldain, where an up-and-down high above the Schyn Gorge follows. The real descent begins after the small tunnel. It starts with a wide singletrail, then a stretch of gravel road, and finally the first-class singletrails down to the power station at Sils im Domleschg. Another fun, but this time flat singletrail is on the cards before you finally reach Thusis station.

We rode the route today from the Davos, Glaris-Ardüsch post bus stop. The uphill on the trail requires a very good level of fitness - or an eBike - we walked a lot. The path is too narrow to cramp yourself uphill. Where the path flattens out, it is very narrow and you run the risk of hitting the step-shaped edge with the right pedal on the uphill side. I rode a lot of it using the Trotinett technique. Alternatively, you can follow the bike route from Schweiz mobil, but then you're on a forest road.
At Wiesen station, look down from the bridge into the ravine and then read the small sign on the other side about the making of "Home of Trails" and then watch the video on YouTube! We also recommend crossing the Wiesen viaduct on foot (bikes are not allowed, you have to dismount, otherwise you will hardly get past the pedestrians).
The trail from Wiesen station to the Landwasser viaduct is the best part of this tour.
From the Landwasser viaduct to Thusis, you are better off on a gravel bike, with the exception of two very short sections of trail, one before Tiefencastel (where you will also be pushing your bike up) and one just before Thusis.
Very beautiful scenery, but overall very few worthwhile trails for the long route.

A very rewarding tour from Glaris to Filisur. You'll need some power in your legs for the singletrail uphills, but everything is easy to ride even without an e-bike. The trails downhill to Filisur are flowy and easy, but still beautiful and rewarding!
You can leave the Schyn Gorge to the grandpas and grannies. These trails are suitable for trekking bikes :-(
Better to go further up to Terziel - that looks more like a single trail (at least on the Map)!

The tour can easily be extended via Terziel, the trail is good but a bit wild. However, the length of the tour then becomes very tough. The ascent to Terziel is very steep. However, it is worthwhile for anyone who has enough energy in their legs or an e-bike with a sufficient battery.

Wow, the single trails are fabulous! Especially the one from Ardüüsch to Steigmeder, roots and stones in the uphill are to be mastered!!! Anyone who does the route on an e-bike has clearly won. Without the motor you need a lot of energy!
But once you have mastered this, you will only be rewarded! In terms of scenery and single trails.
Viewpoints at their finest!
The last bit of energy is needed for the ascent to Zorten before you ride into the old Schin. But even there, there are still some crisp short uphills. But the following trails to Sils i.D. are also fantastic again!
Oh yes, the ride on the Rhaetian Railway to Davos is also fantastic!
Check out my video on Youtube, coming soon!
