Albula Rundtour

Landwasser-Viadukt

The Albula Valley is considered the unpolished mountain bike diamond of Graubünden. One of these highlights is the circumnavigation of the valley floor with such a high proportion of fun single trails that few other tours can boast.

Description

The tour starts in Tiefencastel, where you follow the officially signposted mountain bike route (242-Albulatour) along the Albula river to Filisur. Below Filisur railroad station, follow the signposted route to Schönboden, where you change to the Scalettapass/Keschhütte route (339). This first-class singletrail through a kind of fairytale forest leads to Wiesen station. At the level crossing, the route branches off sharply to the right, passes under the viaduct and now winds its way down to the Landwasser river as a first-class trail. Stay on the right bank until a gravel road begins after a bridge on the left bank. Follow this and pass the world-famous Landwasser viaduct. You reach the main road below Alvaneu via freight roads and single trails and later the turn-off to Lenzerheide. A first-class singletrail begins a little above, leading parallel to the main road to Brienz. Continue via Vazerol to Alvaschein, change sides of the valley on the historic Solis bridge and then climb up towards Mutten. A trail later takes you to Stierva and finally the village of Mon, which is the starting point for the fantastic final descent to Tiefencastel.

We actually wanted to ride the Albula Haute Route. On the way there, after reading the comments, we changed our minds at short notice and opted for the Albula round tour. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that the tour would ride through the middle of the closed Brienz. This forced us to make a major detour back to Tiefencastel via the approach route along the Albula.
The closure can be checked at Swisstopo

We rode the tour on June 13, 2021 and mostly agreed with the author. However, it's more like 50.8 km and 1640 m elevation gain and the climb to Stierva is a tough one. Nature has reared its head in two places and pushing is the order of the day. The final descent to Tiefencastel is not "only" flowy, but otherwise an extremely rewarding tour.

Again the same as for the Albula haute route: I downloaded the gpx data and imported it into the program. And instead of 1400 hm it shows 2270. What is the reason for this?
