Scalottas

Piz Scalottas is known as the summit of Lenzerheide. From Thusis, it forms the basis for a crisp singletrail tour on deserted routes.

Description

From Thusis, you reach Scharans via Fürstenaubruck. In the village, keep right and follow the signposted mountain bike route along the old Schyn path to Muldain. This section is very beautiful, the path is cut into the steep slopes but can be ridden without major problems, even if it is steep in places. From Muldain you ride on asphalted mountain roads to Lain and on to Alp Tgantieni. Continue via Alp Nova on an alpine path to just below the Scalottas summit. The detour to the summit is worth it for the view. The descent is on a rough trail to Alp Parnegel, then on a less frequented high-level trail to Terziel. This is where the real downhill fun begins. An old path leads to Prodavos Sut and on to the crossroads in the direction of Alter Schyn. Now always follow the marked hiking trails to the Sils power station right next to Thusis.

As previously written, the last section of the descent is still not passable today due to a "private road" sign.

I rode the tour today, but unfortunately the "Alter Schyn Weg" has been closed since September 3rd due to a major rockslide.
As turning back was out of the question, I continued up the road and then shouldered the bike up to Alp Fidaz in bikesteiger style.
Unfortunately, the height gained had to be lost again unspectacularly on the way to Lain.
The total elevation gain was 2130 meters.
Otherwise, the tour was great. Strenuous, technical and very natural.

That's a hell of a tour! Well, if you can do it in one day...
After Terziel is a passage where I had to carry the e-bike because it was so narrow and steep.
All in all, a super tour that never ends. Not even with counter-climbs! Highly recommended for good and fit bikers!

Down from Terziel today. Steep and awesome is all I can say. Often loose scree, so that you have the feeling that everything is swimming along with you or that the rear wheel will soon overtake you. But a cool descent to Sils

We rode the tour today. Sunday during the summer vacation was probably not the best idea. There was a lot of bike/e-bike traffic uphill. It was still nice but there was no peace and quiet.

The first part of the trail is very washed out but easy to ride. Then comes a good portion of mud and cow pats up to Alp Parnegel. The trail never gets flowy until Terziel. There we had to adjust the tour a little. We rode along the Prodavros trail. This is steep and technical.
From then on it became quite fun to ride down into the valley. Sometimes fast with lots of loose stones.

By the way, on the whole descent we didn't meet anyone except cows :-)

I rode the tour yesterday. The descent is much more technical than indicated. Wrong rating for me in the tour description... I had a lot of fun. I also chose the descent from Terziel via Prodavos Sura. A worthwhile variant for technical bikers!
Please note:
From 17.08. - 30.09.2022 the route Alp Parnegl - Terziel should not be used!!!

One of the worst tours we've ever done. Lots of unrideable terrain. Lots of mud and cow shit. Nice views and no people though.
We have to invite our son 16 for a big meal today, otherwise he won't be riding with us tomorrow.

I rode the tour yesterday, all in all quite "rustic" and challenging, up and down. It's a bit bumpy down to Terziel and you'll probably have to walk a few meters, then you'll be shaken up a bit all the way down to Scharans. The section between Tgantieni and the Piz is very desolate and, as is so often the case in ski resorts, rides over steep and wide gravel tracks.

Between above Parnegl and Terziel, there are several signs indicating that this is private property and you are requested not to ride your bike on this section between 17.8. - 30.9.2020. Please note.

Scalottas:
Rode the tour on September 15, 2019.

I rode the tour mainly because of the "Alter Schin", but in my opinion this section is nothing special. From Tgantieni some steep ramps up to the June hut. The macarons there were sensational! So I didn't miss the opportunity to take the summit with me. I then headed back to the June hut on a beautifully constructed flow trail. The first section is very rough and not 100% rideable for me. From Alp Parnegl onwards, flowy sections alternate with technical ones. There were also some deep, wet sections. I then rode the recommended bypass. All in all, the descent was okay but nothing special.

Conclusion: Piz Scalottas (and especially the macarons in the June hut) are always worth a detour, but the descents to Lenzerheide offer more in my opinion.
I ride a Scott Spark 900RC and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always last, by a long way.

I can only agree with the comment by "kusisenn" from June 29, 2019.
Corrected departure route also see here: http://out.ac/dGV3A
However, my tour description starts from Valbella Dorf (post bus stop).
I can warmly recommend the tour for S3 riders.

It is better to leave at "Terziel" via point 1671. The turn-off at point 1615 leads over private property / "dead end" and is not desired by the owners...
