Hochwang
Description
The tour starts in Litzirüti just below Arosa. You then follow the signposted mountain bike route 630 (Hochwang Peisteralp). This leads down to Molinis on a gravel road, where the sun-drenched ascent begins. This rides along a small road up to the Hochwang ski lodge, 900 meters further up. The route continues steeply on a cart track up to a hill, where you leave the signposted route for a while and fight your way up to the Fanin Pass. Here it would be possible to descend into Prättigau, but we follow the ridge to Arflinafurgga and on to below the Mattjisch Horn. The long descent awaits, which starts out fun and flowy through the wide and open pastures, then becomes a little steeper and finally joins the official route and leads to the settlement of Pirigen. From here, instead of following the wide alpine road, you take the shortcuts marked as hiking trails and reach Langwies on single trails. The official route is reached again at the train station, which you follow down to Plessur and then back to Litzirüti on a gravel road.

Unfortunately, the trail is no longer there. Cows are now grazing.
The hiking trail has been replaced by a concrete road. Therefore almost no more trails.
But otherwise a beautiful tour.
Top tour for late fall! This is because it is largely south-facing, therefore warm and dry, and quite lonely at this time of year. To the details on 15.11.2020:
- Starting point: Coming from Chur, we didn't ride as far as Lizirüti, but started in St. Peter. Good parking lot next to the main road to Arosa just after the junction to Molinis
- Ascent: Easy to ride, moderate ascent. Completely paved (asphalt, concrete slabs) to Skihaus Hochwang. Beauty is debatable, but it's certainly practical for cranking. Continue to Arfinafurgga singletrail. South-facing, largely dry as long as it doesn't go through snow fields - then rather loamy. On the ridge and 500 meters to the right and left of it, closed snow cover in the cm range. Cool atmosphere and experience as well as fun to ride.
- Descent: A pathless descent across the short-mown, dust-dry alpine meadows. Top surfing experience on a bike. With all the flow, you quickly forget to pay attention to the few signposts and then need the GPS track on the left-hand side of the screen on the other side of the small gorge :-). From Skihaus Pirigen, don't miss the turn-off to the hiking trail. Beautiful tour through the forest - it would be a shame to miss it on the paved alpine road.
- Return to the parking lot: As the north-facing slopes on the south side of the valley hadn't seen the sun all day, we decided not to continue into the fridge via Litzirüti and instead took the road back to St. Peter. As it's downhill all the way, you ride along with the cars and it was less tiring than expected.
As mentioned at the beginning, a big grin on our faces as we high-fived back at the parking lot. Well worth it.
