Danusa – Mittagsplatte

Danusa (Prättigau)

The Danusa region in the lower Prättigau is a rather pristine and remote part of Graubünden. And a bike route rides through the middle of it, far away from the MTB mainstream.

Description

The starting point of the tour is Landquart, a particularly attractive option from the Zurich area thanks to the direct train connection. First, take the Rhaetian Railway to Schiers or Furna and from there take the mountain road up to the village of Furna and on to the Danusa area. This lovely, winding plateau forms the ideal base for the subsequent transfer via gravel roads to the Scära mountain lodge.

This is where the first descent begins: a beautiful, mainly S2 single trail that leads down to the Schranggabach stream after a short intermediate section on gravel. Flowy, clear and perfect for rolling in.

Now comes the second part of the tour, the spectacular crossing over the Mittagplatte to Zizers. To do this, you first climb to Valzeina on an asphalt road and continue uphill until a meadow path on the left leads to the ridge. Here the terrain opens up abruptly: the landscape drops almost vertically into the Chur Rhine Valley. And the downhill trail winds its way through the middle.

In the upper section, this is classified as S3: rooty, steep and technically demanding. Further down, the trail becomes increasingly flowy before you reach a gravel road that rides down to Zizers with several singletrail shortcuts. It's worth taking a look back at the rugged rocky area of the Mittagplatte: it's hard to believe that there is a continuous trail here.

At the end, you can enjoy a relaxed ride on gravel roads and cycle paths back to Landquart train station.
