Stelserberg

Stelserberg (Prättigau)

The Stelserberg high above Schiers offers the best starting point for various descents into the Prättigau. One of the best is the version on the direct route down to Lunden.

Description

In Prättigau, a well-maintained and often asphalted road leads to almost every hill, including the Stelserberg. Via Fajauna, you ride from Schiers - past countless alpine meadows and magnificent farms - over 15 hairpin bends up to the village of Stels and on via Berggasthaus Mottis to the Restaurant zum See, where a short stop is worthwhile. The landlord is considered one of the friendliest innkeepers in the Prättigau. It is only a short, steep ramp to the small Stelsersee lake. This is where the descent begins, which initially rides along a single trail and rough alpine paths to Pardiela. Now follow the marked hiking trail downhill, which initially rides along an alpine road. When you reach a fork in the road, you can follow the path to the left to another farm and then the following singletrail into Buchner Tobel. However, we stay on the hilltop and take the wonderful, sometimes quite tricky single trail to Lunden. After a short stretch on the road, keen trail hunters follow the hiking trail along the edge of the forest to Schiers - a flowing, technical and, with its many small climbs, an exhausting finish.

I rode the tour today in beautiful weather and ideal temperatures. All in all, a good tour for the start of the season.
As you can see on the web map, cycling is prohibited at Stelsersee. I cycled up to the top anyway and spent my lunch break at a hay hut with a beautiful view. I then cycled back to the road, thus avoiding the ban.
In my opinion, the descent is very smooth to ride, with a few technical sections as a small challenge. All in all, a nice trail. I would avoid it after heavy rainfall.
The trail down in the valley is, as described, very strenuous and partly overgrown.
All in all, like Stäbock, I think it's well worth doing.

A great spring tour in the beautiful Prättigau. I rode this tour on 20.05.23. I combined it with the Fadärastein tour, webcode 1010. (combined tour)
Start: Landquart-->Schiers by train, after the Stelserberg tour roll along the river "Landquart" to Grüsch and then ride the Fadärastein tour back to Landquart.
Trails were in good condition. Combined tour = 40 km / 1770 m elevation gain.
Worthwhile thing!
