Fadärastein

Fadärastein

The Fadärastein lies high above the Chlus from Landquart to Prättigau. The spectacular crossing is popular with mountain bikers, especially as the first-class trail descent to Malans is considered a classic.

Description

The actual tour starts at Seewis railroad station, which is easy to reach from Landquart via the old main road. On the main road, you ride up around 400 meters in altitude to the spa town of Seewis. If you are surprised, the village consists of hardly any old houses and the streets are atypically laid out at right angles: In 1863, the entire village of Seewis burned down and practical motives were taken into account when rebuilding the streets. The tour continues from Seewis on a mix of small roads and easy single trails to the Fadärastein. The view here is stunning and the entire Chur Rhine Valley lies almost vertically below us.

The descent begins at the Fadärastein, initially on a fairly technical singletrail, which then becomes smoother, faster and finally wider. If you like it technical, take the singletrail to Malans at the first right-hand hairpin bend on the forest road, otherwise ride the last few meters in altitude on the gravel path to the railroad line. Both from Malans and from the railroad line, you can get back to Landquart via the signposted cycle paths.

Very nice tour! The first hairpin bends are tricky, but manageable for experienced bikers. After that, everything is very easy.

A great spring tour in the beautiful Prättigau. Rode this tour on 20.05.23. I combined it with the Stelserberg tour, webcode 1477. (combined tour)
Start: Landquart-->Schiers by train, after the Stelserberg tour roll along the river "Landquart" to Grüsch and then ride the Fadärasteintour back to Landquart.
Trails were in good condition. Combined tour = 40 km / 1770 m elevation gain.
Worthwhile thing!

Uphill to Seewis was alright on Sunday. The downhill was not so fun. The first switchbacks are so tight with exposure that you're walking; the few next are alright and then it's too easy. At the end of the downhil the trail is closed (alt. 750). I think it's better to stay around Davos.

It should also be mentioned that the trail is located in a wildlife rest area and can therefore only be used from May 1st.

That's not true about May 1st. There is a trail ban until May 1, i.e. the obligation not to leave the trails - which mountain bikers (should) not do anyway. The tour can also be ridden before 1 May with a clear conscience.

Tour top rideable.
The ascent to Seewis on the main road is a bit tedious in heavy traffic.
The descent is technical in the first part (hairpin bends) and then increasingly flowy. Everything is easy to ride.
