Furcletta Ramoz (Welschtobel)

The descent from Furcletta to Arosa is considered one of the most beautiful single trails in Graubünden. Combined with the Urdenfürggli, the tour is a trail highlight in central Graubünden.

Description

It is best to start the ascent to Furcletta in Alvaneu. At the upper edge of the village, the little road branches off to the left and leads past Aclas Davains to Alp da Creusch. The remaining 300 meters in altitude are a mixture of riding and pushing. The last few meters in particular are considered too steep to be mastered by riding. Now the fun begins. From the Forcletta, you head over the initially steep, then increasingly flowing single trail through the wildly romantic Welschtobel. You pass the Ramozhütte and follow the super trail for the next five kilometers. In Arosa, you then climb up to Hörnli on freight roads - the ascent can also be mastered with the Hörnli cable car. The same applies to the singletrail passage to Urdenfürggli. The wonderful trail has the disadvantage that it does not get by without a pushing section. The descent to Lenzerheide leads in countless bends over flowing trails to Scharmoin (middle station) and on one of the freeride routes of the bike park to the valley station of the Rothornbahn.

Tip: If you integrate the Hörnlibahn in Arosa, the tour is shortened by 8 kilometers and the altitude difference is reduced by 550 meters.

We rode the tour from Arosa yesterday. Up to Hörnli is a leisurely pedal, through the Urdental valley, then the trail over to the gondola from Scharmion up to Rothorn and then over to Welschtobel. That was a tough climb, but well worth it. Sugar tour! The trail from the Rothorn is definitely tough too.

I rode the tour yesterday Friday, I was the only biker for miles around until just below the Furcletta. Arrived in the evening and spent the night in Filisur at the Hotel Rätia. The bus to Alvaneu Dorf rides right outside the door every hour, where you can stock up at the Volg right at the start of the tour. I found the ascent quite steep in places and bumped here and there on the alpine road. The entire alpine road has a fine, very good surface and was very rideable with fully pumped tires. At point 1587 below Aclas Davains, there is a choice between two small roads. The right one runs nicely in the shade, which was advisable yesterday given the heat. On the Alp da la Creusch there are cold drinks for 4.- and bars for self-service (cash only) in the fountain during the alp season. A nice service. The Welschtobel is really beautiful, but as an intermediate downhiller I found the upper half a bit strenuous - lots of big stones, loose scree etc. demand a lot of attention. From Arosa, I rode along the bike path to Litzirüti and took the train there. Unfortunately, apart from the fountain and a Selecta vending machine, there are no refreshment options in Litzirüti. So the beer afterwards had to wait until Chur....

I did the tour yesterday late in the fall after watching the snow cover on webcams for the last few days.
With the autumnal colors, this was one of my most beautiful mountain bike tours. It's a long way from Alvaneu, but apart from a few places in between and the last 100 vertical meters, everything is rideable (E-MTB could probably ride everything except for 50 vertical meters, but I can't estimate). But every uphill meter is absolutely worth it! Downhill the tour is not difficult, no steep or sloping sections.
I then took the train to the Weisshorn and on to Chur.

Yesterday I did the tour starting on the Rothorn. The pushing and carrying section is not very long and with this view and the upcoming trail to Arosa, the exertions are quickly forgotten. A very beautiful and fun trail, you almost have to force yourself to take a short break every now and then to enjoy the beautiful panorama. The trail from Urdenfüggli down to Lenzerheide is also very beautiful. Thank God it's not as shaped at the top as it is at the bottom (Chügelibahn :-) ). Next time I would start in Alvaneu Dorf again, as I did the first time. You do gain a few more meters in altitude, but you only have to walk just before Furcletta :-)

Rode the trail from Rothorn last weekend. Top condition, even got to meet the trail manager who was repairing some storm damage to the trail.

There is a lot of loose rock in Welschtobel - please refrain from blocking the rear wheel for the sake of others, then the trail will remain in this good condition.

I agree with all the contributions, the tour is simply wonderful - the climb is forgotten pretty quickly as soon as you get to the top. Take a nice picnic with you and enjoy the moment :-)

Have fun!

We can only share the enthusiasm of the other commentators. Top tour! We also started (on 18.09.2021) from the mountain station on the Parpaner Rothorn. It's easy at the very beginning, but quickly becomes more challenging in the direction of Alp Sanaspans. The almost 500 m climb up to the Culmet saddle is the sporty part of the tour, as the bike has to be pushed and carried for a good while (approx. 50%). At the top there are plenty of views to recover from. Over to the 2nd and 3rd saddle, which is then the Forcletta, there is the first flow, but also a short carrying passage. From the Forcletta in the direction of Welschtobel, it's a little more challenging at the start, but just below the Ramozhütte it's creamy and flowy all the way down to Arosa. In Arosa, it's a sweat-inducing climb of a few hundred meters up to the Hörnlibahn valley station, which then makes the way back to the first mountain ridge to Lenzerheide pleasant. Despite the cable car support, at the end of the day there are still around 1000 m of ascent on the clock, which are rewarded by >>2000 m of descent on beautiful trails. As I said, a top tour all round!

Alternative start from Parpaner Rothorn in the direction of Alp Sanaspans. Varied descent before the bike is pushed up towards Culmet. The next descent begins very steeply and becomes increasingly flowing before the ascent to Furcletta begins.
On the Bike Kingdom bike map, the tour is marked as No. 1 Furcletta Tour.
The trail then rides as described past the Ramozhütte through the Welschtobel to Arosa.
Great tour! Highly recommended! Great trails and wonderful nature.

Rode as far as Arosa. The ascent from Alvaneu to Alp da Creusch is long, but nice ascent and good alpine road (natural path). The last 300m you have to look for the path a bit, especially at the end just before Furcletta. The trail in Welschtobel is nice and flowy and surrounded by beautiful nature.

The section below Ramozhütte has been wonderfully defused by several flowing serpentines and is now rideable without great difficulty
