Ziteil Long Run

Ziteil

The tour to the Ziteil chapel is one of the Graubünden classics. If you start it in Tiefencastel instead of Savognin, you get an extra load of singletrail. This turns the route from a classic into a trail highlight in the central Grisons. Belongs in the portfolio of every good route selection in Graubünden!

Description

The starting point of the tour is Tiefencastel between Lenzerheide, Thusis and Davos. Ideally, you should take the post bus to Mon (please note: advance booking required). If you want to pedal up under your own steam, you can do so on the country road, which adds 370 meters of altitude to the total. From Mon, you climb up to Munter on asphalt and gravel roads, where the path becomes steeper. The gravel road leads up to the Wallfhartskapelle Zitel with a great view of the Oberhalbstein and the Bernina massif in the background. The descent now leads along a wonderfully flowing alpine trail with great combinations of bends. You reach the Cre digl Lai mountain pasture, where you enter the forest section of the descent. The descent leads mostly along fun forest trails, which are easy to ride in the upper part and peppered with individual steep sections in the lower part. This takes you to above Salouf, where, after crossing the slope, there is a 150-metre ascent to Del or to the start of the trail down to Tiefencastel. The single trail from Del via Mon to Tiefencastel has long been a Graubünden classic and a first-class final section of an equally first-class overall route.

A beautiful tour, but a tough one! It's worth mentioning that there are plenty of wells to refill the water bottles

Rode at the end of Oct. Beautiful scenery with the autumn colors. Ascent not without, trails afterwards from a-z brilliant! 🤩 Highly recommended tour!

The ascent from Tiefencastel is a tough one. But it's worth it.
One of the best tours there is.....beautiful. Finest trails.
For bikers who like to climb the summit without a cable car.
We rode the tour on 24.08.2024. We didn't meet a soul on the descent.
Thanks to the tour planner...

Super cool tour! Rode on July 6, 24, all passages free of snow. The trail seems well maintained and developed. Worth mentioning is the catering at the pilgrimage church Ziteil Sat/Sun during the summer season. Slight route change: start in Savognin, finish in Tiefencastel and return by post bus. Accommodation Hotel Jufa perfectly suited.

I rode the tour last Sunday (1.10.23) with Mic.
We started from Tiefencastel, without the post bus shuttle. Unfortunately, after 6.75km/1550m above sea level, we missed the turnoff because of all the chatting and continued on the pleasant forest road ... then there were 200m extra 🙄
After Munter, legs and head should be in good shape, quite steep.

As described, the descent was a bit too flowy at the start, but thanks to the trails from Michael Tschopp (thank you very much!!) it was awesome, exactly what we like.
In the end 2000Hm and a grin on our faces, what more could you want, it was another cool day!

As already described several times, a great tour. The really steep gravel ramps are actually only a few and they are not particularly long. With a few short breaks to "catch your breath", the ascent to Ziteil is easily doable under your own steam. In the middle section of the descent, the trail builders have almost meant too well and turned the hiking trail into a flow trail without any challenges - there is not a single stone left in the way. This section is a lot of fun to ride, but like most flow trails, it's pretty bland. That diminishes the experience of this tour a little, which is a shame.

A worthwhile variant for the approach to Munter leads from Stierva to Mutten and Obermutten and then via the high trail (hiking trail) to Munter.

Great tour by e-bike. Start from Tiefencastel station. All up the road
to the starting point. Thus I came to 1960HM... was allowed to cycle the last meters to Tiefencastel station without a battery. But it was worth it, I can only recommend the tour...
Trails really top and technique: 3 fits from the rating.

We rode this beautiful tour at the end of July on organic bikes and extended it slightly. Beforehand, we went to the Alp da Stierva with a short detour to the highly recommended alpine hut restaurant "Tigia Alp Stierva", which is open at weekends from July to October (https://www.outdooractive.com/de/gastro/stierva/tigia-alp-stierva/40796…). The ascent from Munter to Ziteil is a tough one. On a very good gravel road there is one ramp after the other with regular gradients of over 20%. As we had already ridden over 3000m on our racing bikes the day before, the last ramp was a challenge in the strong headwind. But the ascent was well worth it for the great and flowing trails down into the valley... are great fun :)

I rode the tour at the weekend (without a motor) and I absolutely had to ride it as described by Michael Tschopp.super trails.very nice but tough tour if you ride from Tiefencastel.very empfehlenswert👍🏻

Hello Ride Team,
Perfect e-bike tour. The road up to Ziteil was straight and the trails TOP.
Thanks to everyone and enjoy the tour which I can only recommend.

Tour ridden on 8.9.2022. Highly recommended. We rode the trails as described in Michael Tschopp's commentary. These are also recommended.

Trails are great. The description of the technical difficulty also fits. The last few meters in altitude are only rideable in phases for a 50-year-old woman without a motor - very steep.

Super nice bike tour, but you can massively increase the amount of singletrail if you take the trails on the left after the little lake between Cre digl Lai and Bargung, which ride to the beginning of Val da Morts (visible on the map).

Perfect e-bike and bike tour! Gravel road to the monastery with a few nice ramps, but the road is in very good condition! The descent is flow at its best. All paths have been maintained, TOP condition! A big thank you to the responsible tour guides and trail builders!
