Pointe des Trois Communes

Pointe des Trois Cummunes

The Pointe des Trois Communes (La Redoute) elevation, with its ascent from Sospel and the eternal downhill trail back to the starting point, offers a top tour in terms of scenery and history, but one that requires stamina and strength.

Description

The starting point of this tour is the picturesque village of Sospel. French flair is not only visible here, but is also in the air in the countless bakeries. From here, the main road, the D2566, climbs via Moulinet to the Col de Turini saddle for what feels like an eternity. The compensation for this is an epic uphill feeling paired with an incredible panorama and historic buildings. The route continues in the same manner up to the Baisse de Tueis viewpoint (1888 meters above sea level). Now you change to an old military road up to the Pointe des Trois Communes (2078 meters above sea level). Countless military buildings from the past can be seen here. You will also find yourself on a road frequented by off-road vehicles. Acceptance is a given here, but you should watch out for oncoming traffic. Once you reach the highest point, you have a picturesque view.

The descent is initially on difficulty S1 to S2 as far as the old barracks before you join a military road and follow it along the entire ridge to the Baisse de la Déa saddle (1750 meters above sea level). Not a real challenge in terms of driving technique, but extremely impressive. A breathtaking, incredible and bizarre construction of the road that winds along the ridge. From the saddle, the bike has to be pushed for a short time and then the trail can be ridden. On a difficulty level of S1 to S2, you surf the old paths steadily downhill towards Sospel. The kilometer-long trail leaves nothing to be desired. The vegetation, the surface and the nature of the trail are typical of the region, allowing you to forget everyday life and relive the adventure. From Baisse de Fighiera (750 meters above sea level), the trail is ridden more often, as can be seen from the remnants of the steep bends, berms and jumps. The route continues downhill, briefly crossing a bike park and finally arriving back in civilization in Sospel. Conclusion: All in all, one of the best tours in the Maritime Alps in terms of views and trail content.

What about the bike ban in the Mercantour National Park on this tour?
