Col de Brois - Bassera

Col de Brois - Bassera (Sospel)

From the Col de Brois, the route leads steeply along the slope with great views of the Bassera Valley and an exposed trail. Typically rocky and blocked, real trail freaks will get their money's worth.

Description

A beautiful afternoon tour rides ten kilometers up to the Col de Brois on tar, which is not too steep. Once you reach it, the route runs along a mountain ridge and, on a clear day, you have a fantastic view down to the sea. After about three kilometers, turn right into the Bassera valley. The trail is a tough one, quite exposed, steep and blocked as you circle along the slope. You shouldn't make any mistakes here, as there is a risk of falling. The trail and landscape are wild and rustic. After about five kilometers, the fun comes to an end and you return to the tarred road. Here you can see some climbers on the mountain face, the sun-drenched rock invites you to go climbing. This would be an alternative if you are not on a bike. So you roll back along the tarred road to the start of the tour. The average difficulty level of the trail is S3 with a few S4 passages.

I’d ride the trail from the bottom. The upper section isn’t much to write home about (a gravel road with trail shortcuts). The actual trail winds through a shady deciduous forest. The traction on the dirt-rock trail is excellent. Difficulty: mostly S1–S2 with a few S3 sections. I wouldn’t rate any section as S4—though there are some exposed sections.
