Cime de Merlier

Cime de Merlier

The Cime de Merlier summit is a somewhat hidden bike spot in the French Maritime Alps and, with a little skill, offers an endless trail descent to Isola.

Description

The tour begins in the picturesque village of Isola (which only became part of France after the Second World War). From Isola, we head up the asphalt road towards Isola 2000, the large winter sports resort. It is almost unbelievable how many ski lifts and tourist buildings have been erected here. Whether this is a bonus or a drawback, everyone should decide for themselves. From Isola 2000, you then take a military road that forms a kind of panoramic trail up to the Baisse de Merlier pass (2396 meters above sea level). From here, you then push the last 200 meters up to the summit of Cime de Merlier (2575 meters above sea level). The summit offers a gigantic panorama and a natural spectacle like no other. Again and again you can see eagles using the thermals.

At a level of S2 to S3, you then surf back to the pass and from there on an endless trail to Isola. Branches are in short supply here, as the route only leads downhill and makes bikers' hearts beat faster. From berms to small jumps over rock faces, everything is demanded and finally gives you the opportunity to end the day comfortably with a coffee in Isola after a descent of over 1500 meters.
