Description
On the main road towards Hauenstein, you leave Olten and turn right in Trimbach to tackle the ascent via district and later forest roads to the Froburg castle ruins. The trail begins at the remains of Froburg Castle and is steep in the upper section, riding past the Geissflue and over the Hegiberg before reaching Hauensteinstrasse at the upper end of the village of Trimbach. Cross the valley on this road and ride along side roads and gravel paths towards Spittelberg. The ascent, which is steep in places, leads through military training grounds; it is possible to ride around via Ifenthal and Challhöchi. From the Spittelberg hill, follow the meadow path to Homberglücke, where the first part of the descent to Wangen bei Olten begins. A short crossing below the Sunneberg leads to the single trail, which is technically challenging in places and ends at the uppermost houses in Wangen. Cross the wide valley via local roads and tackle the ascent to the Born hill on gravel paths. The fun trail leads in an easterly direction over the crest of the hill, with the River Aare flowing below on the right. A few meters before the old town of Olten, you reach the end of the trail and roll back to the starting point.
Note:The typical Jura limestone surface, roots and loamy forest soil is very grippy in dry conditions, but all the more slippery when wet. A particularly cautious riding style is recommended on the Born Trail, as it is also popular with pedestrians.

On this tour, you get to know the home trails of Olten. The climbs are mostly very pleasant, although there is the odd steep section here and there. For the first descent from Froburg, we had to push the bike for a short time. Then it was time for the steep descent. Due to the loose earth and the slight dampness, it was also quite slippery and our skills were challenged. The descent from the Homberglücke also has a fun section where it gets technical, but later it gets a bit more flowy again. The highlight at the end was the descent from Born to Olten. It is a very good mix of technical yet flowy terrain and offers a wide selection of different lines. As the trail is fairly straightforward, you can blast down it at quite a pace. However, there were also a few hikers on the trail that you had to watch out for. Generally a successful tour, not phenomenal, but if there is still too much snow in the high mountains and you want to try something new, I can only recommend it.
We rode the tour as a group on 07.04.2024. After the Geissflue there were one or two fallen trees, otherwise this is really a very worthwhile tour. All of us were thrilled. Pleasant, somewhat steep climbs that are rewarded with awesome trails. There were a few hikers on the last descent at the weekend. As this trail can be ridden quite fast, you should take care here. Great trail trilogy around Olten. The ascent to the Geissflue was not completely rideable for me either. Due to the storms of the last few days, there are currently several branches or unkinked trees on the trail, with the exception of the Born trail. As everything is quite overgrown, I would wear a longsleeve instead of a T-shirt next time. There are still roadworks, but the bypass is short and well signposted.

Only the way up to the Geissflue was not rideable for me (at the beginning it is reasonably easy, then very technical) and I somehow couldn't find the way up. If you skip this section, you can go via Pt. 657 to Pt. 641 and then you're back on the original tour. Directly after the Homberglücke very technical, but only a few meters. Currently (June 23) construction site east of Kleinwangen, bypass without problems. Departure from pt. 696, above Born a real highlight. Tour with E-Mtb without problems, two/three "gates", but without problems. Thanks again! Seems to be an insider tip in the area, judging by the tracks :)
