Les Agittes
Description
The starting point of the tour is Leysin, easily accessible from Aigle by cogwheel train. You can either take the gondola up to Berneuse or tackle the almost 600 meters in altitude on a road under your own steam. The descent begins at the Lac d'Äi reservoir, the transition point just below the cable car mountain station. A fun trail, initially characterized by narrow hairpin bends, now leads down to Alp Mandrey and on through the forest to a gravel road. This is the link to the small road that rides up towards Col d'Ayerne. You now climb 250 meters in altitude on this road up to the plateau of Les Agittes. The panorama from here of Lake Geneva, the Dents du Midi and further back towards the Grand Combin is sensational! The view alone makes the tour worthwhile, but the real highlight is still to come: the descent down to Roche. This is initially fast, flowing and varied, then becomes more demanding and difficult in sections in the gorge high above Roche. Then it becomes smoother again, but what remains: countless hairpin bends. Those who like tight bends will get their money's worth here. It descends in this style to the center of Roche and from there along the railroad line back to Aigle.

The gondola lift was not yet open (season start 11.6.22), so we pedaled up. It started on loose scree, where you have to be extremely careful not to trigger a rockfall. Afterwards, flowing and technical passages alternate. All in all, lots of switchbacks (most of them rideable) and lots of loose scree until the end. It was fun!
I rode the tour on 23.07.2021. Since I was in the mood for a few meters of altitude, I took the route directly from Aigle under my wheels. The climb to Le Sepey was very nice through the forest and had a few ramps as well as a singletrack section. From there it was all tarmac until Leysin. From there I followed a mountain path with a pleasant gradient via Lac de Mayen to Berneuse. Only the last section was ultra steep uphill and the downhill afterwards to the two lakes was totally washed out. I hope that the other trails in the bike park will be better maintained.
The "real" descent then started very steep and rough, so that I had to get off my bike from time to time. It only became a bit smoother and more rideable from Mandrays onwards. This was followed by a gentle climb until the final descent at les Agittes. It started with a moderately fun cow shit trail, but soon turned into a varied forest trail with alternating flowing and difficult sections. Towards the end, the trail became more and more blocked, rough and with lots of loose stones. Almost completely rideable but still a real struggle. All in all, an okay tour without a repeat factor.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the lead group uphill; downhill, I'm always the last one by a long way.
This tour with an e-bike? um... you have to be very technically fit, especially when shifting the rear wheel, otherwise you'll be taking a lot of bends :-)
The assessment of e-mountain bike suitability is primarily based on whether there are any pushing or carrying sections. Offsetting the rear wheel is actually and in principle also possible with an e-mountainbike.
