The Colle del Chiapous is perfect for a stitch tour from Lago della Rovina and, due to its former military importance, offers a perfect infrastructure that provides a trail experience in a class of its own.

Description

The start is at Lago della Rovina. The transfer to the lake can be pedaled from Entraque, but offers no trail cut-offs on the way back and therefore has to be done on asphalt. For all those who want to avoid this, the tour starts on the lake shore. From here, the route continues to the Chiosco Bar Lago delle Rovine and then along a mulitiera trail to the Bacino del Chiotas reservoir. Once you reach the reservoir, you pedal along the gigantic wall that was visible from below. The hydroelectric power in the Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime near Entraque is one of the largest storage power plants in Europe. Directly from here, the route continues to the destination of the tour, the Colle del Chiapous pass. You reach your destination exclusively by pushing and carrying on the paths of the Vallo Alpino.

Breathtaking scenery, bizarre rock formations, eagles and ibexes are the prize for the ascent, as well as a full downhill. On difficulty levels S1 to S2, you surf down the trail on countless hairpin bends back down to the Bacino del Chiotas. You then cross the dam wall again and now have the alternative of taking the Sentiero directly to the bar. With a difficulty level of S2 to S4, this offers a rich mix of trails. Alternatively, you can also choose the ascent variant on S1, occasionally S2. Once you arrive at Lago della Rovina, there is a nice little finish at the bar and another great mountain backdrop.
