Colle delle Fenestrelle

The Colle delle Fenestrelle is a crossing with a military background in the Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime and offers a varied trail firework display with gigantic landscape impressions.

Description

The tour starts near the Lago della Rovina. A shuttle to the lake is definitely a good idea, as it is possible to get there by bike from Entraque, but the return journey is exclusively on asphalt. From the lake, pedal a few meters to the bar below the Bacino del Chiotas dam. The route continues uphill along a former mule track to the Bacino del Chiotas dam. You will have to push your bike in between, as the path has eroded a little in some places. Along the dam wall, the path narrows towards the Rifugio Genova-Figari before you can already see the signpost to the highest point, Colle delle Fenestrelle. From here, the Alpini trail, which is part of the Vallo Alpino defense complex, leads steadily uphill. You can already memorize the key points in the uphill carry/push passage and make a note of your choice of line - as this path will subsequently serve as the descent. Once you reach the highest point of the tour at the Colle delle Fenestrelle, you have magnificent views of the depths in the middle of the nature park.

As already mentioned, the downhill runs along the ascent trail. On difficulty levels S2 to S3, occasionally S4, you return to the reservoir. The stones and the ground should not be underestimated. A good choice of line, concentration and body tension are the be-all and end-all for mastering the bends, which are relatively flat, without putting your foot down. The route continues to the reservoir and then the ascent variant is also available as a descent variant, or the Direttissima descent variant directly to the bar.
