Malga del Monte Bassa

The Val di Sole offers some exciting trail combinations along historic paths. One particularly rewarding route includes the ascent and subsequent descent from Malga del Monte Bassa along a historic trail back to Mestriago.

Description

This tour begins in Mestriago. From there, the route rides west along the Torrente Noce on paved roads until it reaches the village of Mezzana. From Mezzana, you leave the paved surface behind and ride along unpaved paths past Roncio. The gradient remains moderate and easily manageable until you finally reach Malga del Monte Bassa. In the upper section, the ascent gradually turns into a rustic cart track, parts of which are overgrown with grass. However, the effort is rewarded with fantastic views that repeatedly offer sweeping vistas down into the Val di Sole.

From Malga del Monte Bassa, mountain bikers cross the southern slope and shortly thereafter enter the downhill trail directly. This trail starts out narrow and requires precise line selection, but widens as it progresses. Finally, the descent joins a classic mule trail that leads riders straight back to Mestriago. With a difficulty level ranging between “S1” and “S2,” the descent is easily manageable for most riders who ride trails and promises first-class riding fun on historic terrain.
